Have you ever felt like you struggle with having faith?

What if I told you that there was one thing you could do that would help improve your struggle? Drum roll please… it's the simple act of being thankful.

Being thankful & having faith have similarities, both involve trust & humility. When you have thankfulness it fuels faith. Both thankfulness and faith cause you to look beyond yourself into the needs of others. Faith helps you be able to trust in the future and thankfulness helps you embrace what’s happening right now. Together they bring you a sense of peace and stability & gratitude.

Looking deeper at faith it is not something you have when you receive God’s promise, it is something you must have before you receive God’s promise. Hebrews 11:1 says faith is the substance of things hoped for, and the evidence of things not seen. This means that faith can only exist before our prayers have been answered. Think about the Israelites and their exodus from Egypt. Moses led millions of Israelites out of Egypt and through 40 years in the wilderness, but of those millions only 2 (Joshua and Caleb) actually made it into the promised land. This is because they were the only ones who actually had faith, which they demonstrated by their belief in God’s faithfulness for 40 years before they saw the promise, and which they evidenced by their declaration that they could defeat the giants and take hold of what God had promised them. The rest of those millions of Israelites died miserably in the wilderness, just shy of the promise, after complaining and doubting for 40 years and ultimately demonstrating their lack of faith by shrinking back in fear at the sight of the giants and declaring their complete lack of confidence in God’s ability and desire to keep His word to them.

From what we read in the Word, the Israelites didn’t practice thankfulness. It was like they were blowing their fire out, not knowing it was extinguishing their ability to have faith.

We can learn from this & take dominion over our flesh & put thankfulness at the top of our daily to-do list.
